Zurs is the playground of the rich and famous. Needless to say that you will not find a studio the size of a shoe box capable of sleeping 10! You won’t find catered chalets here either and the only apartments tend to be linked to luxury ‘residences’. Zurs is not a town or even a village as we know it, more just a collection of some of the finest hotels in the world on a high-altitude plateau. The five-star Hotel Thurnhers Alpenhof is a member of the ‘Leading Hotels of the World’ group and so anyone looking to name-drop by staying here will have to stump up around €700 per night for a standard room or €1500 per night for one with its own spa facilities! These prices do include an 8 course gourmet dinner though! The Hotel Lorunser is just as classy and just as expensive.
If you don’t have that sort of money (and how many of us do?!) it would be worth trying the 3 star Enzian Hotel, and the 4 star Hotel Arlberhaus has some winter packages on offer (prices will still be well in excess of €1000 per person per week though) and a rooftop curling rink! Families tend to be put off Zurs by the prices but if you do want to visit with the kids the 4 star Valluga Alpenhotel offers family suites and a childrens play room. Almost all accommodation in Zurs is ski in/out due to the position of this high-altitude resort.
