Back to Zell am See-Kaprun

Accommodation here is mainly in hotels around the lakeside but there are plenty of chalet and apartment options in the surrounding area. Interhome has a good selection of over 50 self-catered apartments and chalets in the area but a lot of these will require a drive or a bus to the slopes. Most self-catered accommodation in Zell is to be found in the surrounding lakeside villages or on the mountain side above the town. One exception to the rule is the Villa Becker, a luxury chalet just a few metres from the Schmittenhohe cable car and a short walk to the centre of town.

Whereas the resorts of France have a lot of catered chalets the Austrians are very keen on Pensions – a kind of guest house. In Zell there are several good value family-run pensions offering hearty breakfasts and inexpensive accommodation. The Pension Hubertus is a good example of this whilst the Pension Mullauer in the village of Schuttdorf also offers B&B at under €50 per night in spacious modern rooms. Schuttdorf is a 20 minute walk around the lake from Zell but has its own facilities and nightlife.

Hotels range from good-value comfortable 3 stars such as the Hotel Bernhofer with its half board deals from just €43 per night, right up the scale to the impressive lakeside Grand Hotel and the 5 star Hotel Salzburgerhof. You will need deep pockets for either of these! In Schuttdorf the Hotel Latini offers good value for money and extensive leisure facilities.
