Eating out in Val d’Isere can sometimes surprise you. Usually in French resorts, the safe formula for good eating is to stick to what the French do best: French cooking. But in Val d’Isère you’d be missing out on a vast array of other offers including seafood platters and a good old British curry.


Mountain restaurants in Val d’Isere

Mountain restaurants are very much a mixed bag. Whilst many stick to old favourites such as spaghetti bolognaise, there are some real gems. Try the Edelweiss on the Mangard piste, La Fruitière or Le Signal for a more exciting menu. As a general rule, the lower down the mountain you are, the cheaper the food will be.


Après ski in Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère’s reputation for après ski precedes it and you won’t be disappointed! The party starts early and finishes very late. Prices in resort are on the high side but it is standard practice to squeeze as much from your Euro as possible by moving from one happy hour to another.

The proximity to Italy means pizza and pasta feature heavily and children are generally well catered for in the resort restaurants. Most of the restaurants will do reasonably priced steaks but you might want to remember that the French tend to like their meat bluer than we do, be sure to ask.
