Whether it be self-catering apartments, catered chalets, small or large hotels, budget or luxury… there really is something for everybody in Tignes.
In Tignes les Brévières you will mainly find catered chalets available to rent. There are also a few budget hotels & low-rise self-catering apartment options. This is a quiet resort with just a few bars & restaurants and is charming in character. Ideal for families or those looking for peace and quiet.
In Tignes les Boisses, the lower part “Tignes 1800” has a youth hostel and some apartments (mainly resort worker accommodation); there are plans afoot to create more luxury apartments for tourists in the near future. In the upper part of les Boisses it has retained its traditional image and there are just a few small, independent hotels and a handful of private chalets.
In Tignes le Lac the choice increases; large and small apartment blocks, chalets, luxury hotels and residences, family-run hotel and tour-operator hotels.
In le Lavachet there are mainly apartments, a good-sized tour operator run hotel as well as a charming chalet quarter.
In Val Claret there is the upper part ‘Val Claret Centre’, which is home to apartments, a couple of hotels and a large Club Med. Down in the lower ‘Grande Motte’ section, there are more apartments as well as two hotels.
Chalets
If you are looking for a traditional chalet holiday you are better off searching in les Brévières, Tignes le Lac or Lavachet (if you are looking for ‘lively’ nightlife, do not opt for Brévières). Many of the major chalet tour operators are present in Tignes, most of whom offer the flights, transfers, full/half-board package as well as “accommodation-only” to clients who prefer to travel independently and find their own way to resort. Often “chalet-apartments” can be better value for money; offering clients warm, spacious and traditional chalet interiors but which are situated in apartment buildings as opposed to vast detached properties.
Hotels
Hotels in Tignes range from budget options such as Les Chardons in les Brévières, right up to the comfortable luxury of larger hotels in Lac and Val Claret (many complete with pools and beauty spas). Most offer the complete deal of full or half-board accommodation along with a week’s lift pass or simply B&B. Some of the smaller less ‘impressive’ hotels are arguably better value for money; La Gentiana has a pool but is not as ‘luxurious’ – and is in a great location in Tignes le Lac. Le Marais is a small hotel often overlooked because it is in les Boisses – but it has charm, nice restaurant, plunge pool and is a stone’s throw from the lifts, pistes and bus stop.
Apartments
There are countless apartment rental companies in Tignes, ranging from the “owners direct” approach right through to the resort owned “Tignes Reservations” offering a wide range of apartments in all villages. In addition to this there are also new apartment buildings situated in lower-rise, traditional wooden residences (MGM and CGH are good examples). They offer self-catering apartments with attractive décor, swimming pools and spas. On top of this there is the added comfort of a 24-hour reception/concierge service. A good general apartment-finding website is tignes.co.uk who have been operating for many years. They have an impressive portfolio of apartments in Le Lac, Lavachet and Val Claret.
Snowboarders
The Dragon Lodge is an iconic place to stay in Tignes Le Lac. They’ve been hosting snowboarders to the resort for over 15 years and provide a comfortable, fun and authentic experience – find out more on their website: dragonlodge.com.
