Chez Pepe Nicolas is on la Chasse piste. Pedestrians can take the bus between les Menuires and Val Thorens and ask to stop at Chez Pepe Nicolas)

This family run establishment has been a restaurant since 1957 but only opened in the winter in 2012. The thoughtful décor (rustic with a modern twist) makes it easy to see the origins of the farmhouse this once was.  As well as milk churns and milk bottles used in the décor, one of the loos has an old milk churn as a toilet cistern. Nothing feels contrived though and the menu offers local produce including a great selection of local cheeses. Food is available all afternoon, but there is a reduced...

L' Etoile des Neiges, Place de la Mairie, 73440 St Martin de Belleville, France

This restaurant, just at the bottom of the piste in the centre of the village, is one of the more upmarket places to eat in St Martin. The service is usually very good and the views from the terrace are jaw-droppingly beautiful. Bring your sun cream though - it's a sun-trap.

This rustic restaurant serves a range of Savoyard specialities with cheese made on the premises. La Ferme Choumette is a must for anyone with children. The animals on the farm are only separated from the dining area by a glass wall. This will keep the little ones entertained for hours!

Resort restaurant close to the piste which is nominally a pizzeria but this place does so much more than just pizza. The menu is extensive and the prices are very reasonable for a ski town. Most people should find something to suit them here.

Le Lachenal

Le Lachenal is a charming restaurant in a typical Savoyard setting situated in one of the oldest buildings in the village. Good hearty cuisine. Specialties include fondue and raclette.

Les Places, 73440 St Martin de Belleville, France

A recent entry in the Michelin guides and definitely the place to go for a genuine mountain food experience. The dining area is set in a hayloft and the restaurant is actually run by a local cheese maker. The local speciality cheeses are Tomme, Beaufort and a goat's cheese called Serac de Chevre.

Not the cheapest of places for a drink in St Martin but very nice if you just want to relax and have a quiet drink in classy surroundings. The hotel rooms are all individually decorated and the apartments are great for groups/families.
