Sestriere, by its nature as a purpose-built resort, doesn’t really do cosy alpine hideaways and so charming chalets are nowhere to be seen. Instead, charm is replaced by convenience with almost everywhere on offer providing a ski-in and out location. The apartment complexes at the edge of the piste can be great for families with no transport hassles and a wealth of children’s facilities on site. Most of the big tour operators have options here and Interhome, one of the largest self-catering agencies in Europe should be able to help too. The apartments of the Olympic Village are modern and comfortable as they were only built for the athletes of the 2006 games. Thomson offers reasonably priced all-inclusive packages here and a mini club for children.
There are plenty of hotel beds to be found in Sestriere and prices are quite reasonable compared to other resorts in Europe. The 4 star Hotel Fraitavino is right in the centre and offers a high standard of accommodation with friendly staff whilst the Hotel Cristallo is in a great spot next to the gondola. It is worth paying a bit extra for a room with a view though as some rooms face a wall! The Miramonti and Savoy Edelweiss are other popular 3 star options in good locations. The Principi di Piemonte is a 4 star hotel that looks more like a castle. You will be spoilt by the cuisine and health club facilities here.
