Sestriere has far more piste on its doorstep than any of the other Milky Way resorts. The nursery slopes are well-positioned at village level and the altitude of the resort at over 2000m, coupled with the new snow-making system, make them by far the most reliable in the area. There are hundreds of kilometres of intermediate terrain in the area and it is possible to ski as far as Montegenevre on the other side of the border with France, but allow plenty of time to get all the way back!
Advanced skiers will find it easier to get some mileage under their belts with improved links to Sansicario and Pragelato. The Kandahar and Col de Sises areas that hosted the Olympic events in 2006 are not to be missed. Sestriere is a bit behind the times when it comes to facilities for boarders, but there is now a snowpark in the Alpette district.
