Back to Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is in a good location in terms of airports, so even if you are planning a shorter trip it can be easy to get from the airport to the slopes. The nearest airports are Turin in Italy and Grenoble in France and these are served by Easyjet and Ryanair,. Lyon, Marseille and Geneva are also reasonably close.

  • Turin to Serre Chevalier 133km, transfer time just over 2hrs
  • Grenoble to Serre Chevalier 156km, transfer time around 2.75hrs
  • Lyon to Serre Chevalier 203km, transfer time around 3hrs
  • Geneva to Serre Chevalier 264km, transfer time around 3.5hrs
  • Marseille to Serre Chevalier 270km, transfer time around 3.5hrs

From Turin airport there are connecting trains to Oulx in Italy and from just outside the train station a bus runs to Briancon. There are also buses from Grenoble and Lyon airports to Briancon. It may be worth hiring a car if you haven’t driven down yourself, as the resort is so spread out, although there are plenty of buses to ship you about if you prefer.

If you do decide to drive to Serre Chevalier the journey will take you about 12 hours once you reach Calais or Boulogne. The best route is via Chambery on the A43 motorway, then through the Fréjus tunnel to Sauze d’Oulx (Italy), and finally the Col du Montgenevre pass arriving in Briancon. An overnight train from Paris Gare d’Austerlitz to Briancon is an option for those who prefer rail travel; this is a great little train, but takes ages. Alternatively make use of the fast TGV services, either between Paris and Grenoble (5 hours) or Paris to Oulx on the Milan Line (4 hours). Both involve catching buses for the final leg but it is worth noting that the Italian TGV does better sandwiches than the French one!
