Schladming is located close to four airports, making it easily accessible and a nice option for short breaks. Of the four airports (Salzburg, Linz, Graz and Munich) Salzburg International is the closest at just 90km away and you can be in resort within an hour by road or under two hours by train. From the airport there are regular transfers into the city for anyone wishing to travel to resort by public transport. Salzburg is served by several airlines including Ryanair and FlyBe. One of the things to look out for is that quite often, the cheaper the airline, the more complicated and expensive their baggage policy is.
- Salzburg to Schladming 90km, transfer time around 1hr
- Munich to Schladming 255km, transfter time around 2.5hrs
If you opt to hire a car at the airport you will have greater flexibility when it comes to visiting neighbouring resorts. It is also feasible to take your own car to Scladming but allow two days for the journey as Schladming is 1200km from Calais. Once in Salzburg, head for the resort by going south on the A-10 autobahn, exiting at junction 63 on route E-651/B-99.
Trains are an easy and eco-friendly way to get to the Alps too and the connections for Schladming are pretty good. Take the Eurostar to Paris and then from Gare de l’Est in the French capital you can take an overnight train to Munich. From Munich, travel with a regular Eurocity train to Salzburg, then change for Schladming; these last two trains each take an hour and a half.
