There is a nice mix of accommodation in La Thuile and despite not having as many tourist beds as some other resorts it is normally possible to find just about anything from charming chalets in the old mining villages to functional ‘ski to the door’ apartments and hotels in Planibel at the foot of the slopes. Some people also choose to stay over the border in the connected French resort of La Rosiere, particularly when looking for a catered chalet. This is the weak point of La Thuile as the catered chalet concept hasn’t caught on in Italy quite as well as it has in France. On the plus side there are plenty of reasonably priced hotel beds to be found in La Thuile, with many places offering competitive half-board packages. One such hotel is the Hotel Piccolo San Bernardo with a half board week from around €420.
La Thuile has a few upmarket hotels but the leader of the pack is the Hotel Dora, a recently refurbished 4 star in a central position in the old village. This is the place to go if you want to spoil yourself, with Turkish baths and a hammam on site. The Chalet Alpina has 16 rooms and is just a few minutes stroll from the lifts, and is a good mid-range option at around €350 per week B&B. If self-catering is more your style try the Planibel for convenience (especially if you have young children in the group). The 4 star complex has superb leisure facilities. The tourist office can advise on private holiday rentals but be sure to check their locations on a village map.
