Situated just a few kilometres into Italy after the Mont Blanc Tunnel and close to the major Autostrada A5 Aosta motorway, La Thuile is easily accessible by road. Its proximity to France and Switzerland, as well as Turin airport, means that transfer times from the two closest airports (Geneva in Switzerland and Turin in Italy) are short, making it an ideal destination for weekend skiing. Alternatively, you can fly into Milan for a slightly longer journey (around two and a half hours). Transfer to resort by train or public bus can be long and involve several changes whether approaching from Turin or Geneva. By far the best options are to either hire a car or book a private minibus transfer at around 250 Euros for four people return.
- Turin to La Thuile 109km, transfer time around 1.25hrs
- Milan to La Thuile 230km, transfer time around 2.5hrs
- Geneva to La Thuile 240km, transfer time just over 2.5hrs
Having a car in resort is useful as it allows you to easily access nearby resorts without waiting for the Savda buses. You can quickly pop over in to Chamonix in France for example. If you wish to drive all the way in your own vehicle you should allow around 9 hours from Calais and avoid peak times when the Mont Blanc tunnel suffers with congestion. The train journey from the UK takes around 13 hours and involves a minimum of 3 changes, with the last leg of the journey taking you to Pre-Saint-Didier station, just 10km away from resort and connected by regular public buses.
