The first thing to say is that Hintertux itself is little more than a collection of upmarket hotels at the foot of the cable car, so in planning to ski Hintertux you should consider whether you are happy to take a bus every day to the slopes in exchange for staying in one of the bigger villages of the Tux Valley. It is a small price to pay for the added facilities and extra charm offered by villages such as Lannersbach and Finkenberg. If you are determined to be right next to the Glacier Bus cable car the best option is probably the 4 star Hotel Rinderhof with its spacious rooms, nice restaurant and several leisure & wellness facilities. Families will find it convenient and children are normally looked after very well.
In the wider Tux Valley there is everything from small apartments to chalets and hotels available. The village of Lannersbach is particularly well-connected with regular buses to the glacier cable car and a direct lift link in to the Mayrhofen area. The 4 star Hotels Central and Alpin Spa are both in this village and offer good leisure facilities and renowned restaurants. However, if your budget can’t stretch to this type of luxury there are numerous guest houses (Pensions) and B&B’s to choose from. The Olpererblick is a no-frills option with B&B or self-catered apartments available and the Pension Pinzger will appeal to families with shared wellness facilities and a children’s play room. The Tux tourist office (www.tux.at) has over 200 apartments for holiday lets.
