When eating out in Grindelwald there is always the option to gorge yourself on cheese fondue – it is Switzerland after all. However, there are also an unusually high number of Italian restaurants scattered throughout the town, every one of which produces superb dishes and is great for a filling family meal after a day on the slopes. Luscious Boulangeries and Swiss Chocolatiers are also dotted throughout the town offering superb freshly baked goods and excellent chocolate.
Mountain restaurants in Grindelwald
There are a good range of mountain restaurants on the slopes around Grindelwald, and nearby Wengen. Both Bellevue des Alpes and Brandegg are popular for their ease of access, making them a great meeting place for families and mixed ability groups. At the other end of the scale is the Grindelwaldblick Restaurant, accessed via a tricky black run it caters to experienced skiers only. You’ll find good wholesome Swiss fare in most places on the mountain, from rosti and steaming bowls of goulash, to the ubiquitous fondue.
Après Ski in Grindelwald
Grindelwald doesn’t have the biggest après ski scene in the Alps, but what it does have are some very atmospheric bars with friendly staff. We especially like the Avocado Bar in town and the TeePee Bar up on the mountain at Kleine Scheidegg. Beer, beer and then more beer are generally the drinks of choice on the German speaking side of Switzerland. However, there are usually special cocktails concocted by the bars in town – at fair prices too.
