The pistes of Courmayeur are split between two sectors, Checrouit and Dolonne / Val Veny, with 26 runs and 100km of piste between them. Whilst not an extensive ski area it is well served by a largely modern network of 22 chairlifts and gondolas, and you can be confident of the conditions with cannons covering 80% of the runs. The nursery slope of Tzaly 10 is a great place to learn though you’ll need to use lifts for access. Progression to the blue runs is not as easy as in other resorts, but when confidence grows don’t be put off by the red runs around Checrouit. Most of them are wide rolling confidence-builders.
Expert skiers will enjoy the few black runs on offer but after a warm-up hiring a guide for the 20km long alternative Vallee Blanche route from Punta Helbronner is a must. Off-piste opportunities are almost endless and the heli-skiing is amongst the best in the world.
