Back to Courmayeur

This is a definitely a resort for those who come skiing for the luxury of long lunches as much as for a hard day on the mountain. The ratio of 23 mountain restaurants to 22 lifts should tell us something about the importance of the cuisine! Italians are renowned for the care and attention they lavish on food and a visit to Courmayeur will just reinforce that reputation. Eating out here is an event in itself as you sample the many different antipasti of cheeses, meats, pastas and vegetables, usually made from fresh local ingredients.

The après-ski is lively but in keeping with the classy nature of the village. The main street is a joy when the lifts close and many bars even offer free drinks and antipasti at times to entice you in! There is a heightened buzz about the place at weekends when numbers swell thanks to the proximity of Turin and Milan.
