The local ski area has 49 runs of varying standards and 83km of piste in total. Right above the village is Super-Chatel, an area of easy, open and wooded slopes that are perfect for learners. Intermediates can also start from here on a clockwise Portes du Soleil circuit. The anticlockwise circuit starts outside the village with a bus to Linga but be sure to take the time to ski the Ladies World Cup downhill course at Linga first. Advanced skiers will love the moguls into Plaine Dranse or the isolated Barbossine run towards Torgon.

Chatel is within easy reach of other resorts on the Portes du Soleil circuit, and the full area lift pass represents much better value for money than the local area for anyone of intermediate standard and above due to the variety and extent of pistes on offer. Avoriaz, for example, is great for snowboarders and high-altitude snowsure slopes, whilst Torgon is the best place to ski with views of Lake Geneva.
