Folie Douce – Val d’Isere

Folie Douce, Val d'Isere, France

This mountain restaurant is a great place to meet friends on the mountain in Val d'Isere. Have they taken advantage of this? Yes. The self-service restaurant is expensive, the food isn't always brilliant and in peak season the queues verge on the ridiculous. Having said all that the waffle man sells sandwiches and drinks. The afternoon/apres-ski music with a DJ and a live band is pretty legendary and the crowd is soon dancing on the tables and downing expensive drinks without a care in the world! Lifts; La Daille, troits,...

Verbier, Switzerland

This Verbier mountain restaurant is a large barn type building, inside you'll find a very long dining hall, with wooden tables. The layout is functional and rather bare but manages to feel quite welcoming, especially after a long morning on the slopes. Outside there is a terrace although the view isn't as good as at restaurant Combatzeline. Lifts: ski to the bottom of 66 Greppon Blanc, staying to the right of 21 Les Chottes. Do not take the traverse to La Tsa, but continue down to the right of Les...

Arc 1600

Situated a few yards to the right of  the lower section of the Mont Blanc piste running down towards Arc 1600 lies a recently-added mountain restaurant that is well worth a visit. The first thing to note about the 'Sanglier qui fume' is the name! It means the smoking wild boar and once you see the place you won't forget. There are reminders everywhere. There is a hint of comedy and a convivial atmosphere led by the boss, Olivier, who makes regular rounds to ensure  the clients are enjoying themselves....
