The closest airport to Cervinia is Turin (served by several UK airlines) but most people find that there is a better choice of flights to Milan and Geneva, both of which are under 200km away and can be reached in a couple of hours by road. If you can find a flight to Turin you will be just 120km from resort and the public bus service is a cost-effective transfer.
- Turin to Cervinia 119km, transfer time around 1.5hrs
- Milan to Cervinia 182km, transfer time just over 2hrs
- Geneva to Cervinia 195km, transfer time around 2.75hrs
Transfer by train is easy from Turin or Milan too, the best option being an intercity train between the two if necessary followed by a local service from Turin to Chatillon. This is where you will need to change on to a local bus service for the final 27km of the journey. The public buses connect Cervinia with Milan three times a day with a change in Chatillon. From Geneva a rail transfer isn’t such a great option and it is best to hire a car to make the two hour road journey via the Mont Blanc Tunnel connecting Chamonix with the Aosta Valley.
Rather than fly from the UK why not consider driving or taking the train all the way. The Eurostar from London will take you to Paris where you can catch an overnight train to Milan followed by local services to Chatillon as above. You can be in resort in around 12 hours. The driving time from Calais is around 11 hours and don’t forget that snow chains are essential when driving in winter resorts. There is plenty fo parking available once you reach Cervinia.
