Many people will argue that the terrain around Grand Montets is the best accessible by lift in the world, and with the cablecar from Argentiere offering the quickest access it is no surprise that the resort attracts serious skiers. The maximum vertical descent is a staggering 2045m, but in order to reach the very top you will have to pay a supplement for the final lift on top of what is already one of the more expensive ski passes in France. However, on a powder day it is a damn sight cheaper than heli-skiing and just as good!
Not everyone wants to ski powder, bumps and couloirs though and beginners will need to head to Les Chosalets for the nursery slopes before building confidence on the slopes of Vormaine. Whilst the facilities for learners and children are adequate they are far from perfect and there are much better options in France.
