Le Bouche à Oreille mountain restaurant was new for the 2014/5 season and is easily accessible from St Martin, Les Menuires and Meribel. The restaurant has replaced what used to be an underwhelming, disappointing self-service whose only redeeming feature (in our view) was the amazing views from its location at 2700m.

Naturally the views remain and owners Rene and Maxime Meilleur have refurbished the whole restaurant to make the most of them. The bright interior has lots of strategically placed windows so views are possible from both floors and the sunny expansive terrace has fabulous views over the valley.

Service is friendly without being too attentive. The food is on the expensive side but my ‘Boite chaude’ was easily enough for two people: €29 bought a whole baked cheese, plenty of charcuterie and salad. They have official sharing plates too as well as lighter dishes such as home-made soup.

There is an impressive wine list with equally impressive wine fridges you pass on the way to the toilets.

Le Bouche also has a snack bar at ground level. Le Ski Drive’s popularity is helped by the handy deck chairs right next to the ski racks ensuring maximum relaxation for a minimum walk after dropping your skis/board.
