Ever stayed in a great resort but had to put up with buses to get to where the action is? Not a problem with Mark Warner’s Chalet Hotel Val d’Isère. It is in the heart of the main village close to the Tourist Office but helpfully set back off the main road so there’s no traffic disturbing your beauty sleep. If you need equipment hire, Killy Sport is immediately next door. It just couldn’t be more convenient.
The hotel is also just a few minutes from the ‘Front de neige’ where you’ll find all the main lifts and ski school meeting places. You’ll even be able to see exactly when in the morning all the lifts get going from the restaurant’s extraordinary panoramic floor to ceiling windows (no excuse for lingering over that second or third coffee).
The main lounge at Chalet Hotel Val d’Isère has a cosy bar, comfy leather sofas and armchairs, perfect for relaxing in the evening after or before dinner.
If you haven’t stayed in a chalet hotel before, rest assured you get the same ridiculous amounts of food as in smaller chalets: hot breakfasts, afternoon tea and a three course dinner with wine are all included in your holiday price. As you’d expect, the staff get one night a week off so you also get a chance to try one of the many local restaurants.
Because this is a chalet hotel, they can easily accommodate larger groups but this place really comes into its own for families with younger children. This hotel has its own creche and qualified British nannies on site who will look after your little treasures and keep them amused with games both inside and outside the hotel, including sledging and snowman building.
There’s a choice of bedroom types including some with interconnecting rooms. (All rooms have their own en suite bathrooms, televisions with English speaking channels and hairdryer.)
Guest also have use of the heated outdoor pool alongside the hotel as well as a discounted rate for the connected spa with steam and sauna rooms. The spa also offers all the usual beauty treatments as well as massages and packages designed to rejuvenate tired muscles. Just the ticket before you head out to sample Val d’Isère’s lively après-ski.
Thanks to Mark Warner for the photos and a fabulous stay in January 2017.
