This mountain restaurant in Chamonix has spectacular views, and at a height of 3842km it should be! Le 3842 restaurant (yes you can guess where they got the name!) is at the top of l’Aiguille du Midi, the highest restaurant in Europe and starting point of the 24km Valle Blanche off-piste descent. As expected from its locale the views are pretty stunning – as well as Mont Blanc right beside you, you can see the Matterhorn and Grand Combin if the weather is favourable. If not then head inside for some warming tartiflette and a stiff espresso before you make your way back down.

Located in an upstairs room, possibly to ensure maximum altitude, the French claim this is the world’s highest restaurant . But then they claim Mont Blanc is Europe’s highest mountain, a point disputed by Russia, home to Mount Elbrus.
