Zermatt – Food and drink
Zermatt has a reputation for being pricey and this image is reinforced in many of its top-class restaurants. However, with almost 100 restaurants in this small town it is possible to eat well without breaking the bank, and if you are self-catering you will be pleasantly surprised by the range of fresh produce in the supermarket of this remote resort. On the mountain you can track your position by the menus, with the Italian influence getting stronger as you approach the border. The pasta and polenta makes a change from local Walliser dishes that are dominated by cheese.
The après ski scene is a big part of a holiday to Zermatt with lively bars at the foot of the main lifts and a plethora of bars, stuberls, lounges and clubs in the main street and around the church. There is no shortage of options for night owls and you may find that it’s hardly worth going to bed when the dancing stops!
