Les Deux Alpes – France

Compare this resort

Les Deux Alpes (pronounced Lay duh-zalp) sits at 1650m in the Dauphine region of Isere.  Although the resort could once have been described as a concrete monstrosity, many of the buildings that line the main thoroughfare have now had face-lifts, leaving them looking like authentic alpine chalets. When you add to the improved aesthetics the wide choice of slopeside accommodation in Les Deux Alpes, as well as reliable glacial pistes, a cutting edge snowpark and boardercross zone, and a lively apres ski scene, it is hard to imagine anyone not enjoying their stay.

The ski area itself covers 220km and the lift system is modern and fast, coping well with all but the biggest of school holiday crowds. The town is long and thin, and although there is no clear centre, most of the restaurants in Les Deux Alpes are to be found around the main gondola stations, while many of the Les Deux Alpes hotels, bars and shops are at the lower end of town.

The 6 day Les Deux Alpes lift pass allows for two days skiing in Alpe-d'Huez, but an infrequent one hour bus journey, or a pricey helicopter flight, are currently the only links, unless you have a car in resort.

  1. Snowcat tours across the glacier provide wonderful views.
  2. Take a lovely family or group walk to visit the Ice Caves.
  3. Visit the pretty village of Venosc by gondola.
  4. Chill out at the Aqua Centre with a massage and sauna.
  5. Try your hand at night skiing.
