Les Arcs – Where to stay
Les Arcs has accommodation for all tastes but it's important to choose the right area for what you want. If you want modern luxury with fantastic doorstep ski access, head for Arc 1950. If you're a fan of the catered chalet, think about Peisey-Vallandry. Les Arcs has everything from budget self-catering apartments to luxury hotels and new developments are still being added. There are traditional villages as well such as Villaroger and the hamlets around Peisey-Vallandry so you can escape the crowds and experience some authenticity without missing out on the excellent skiing facilities.
There are a lot of independent British-run catered chalets in the Peisey-Vallandry area. Bigger operators are also present here as well as throughout Les Arcs. Some chalets are individual buildings whereas others can be located in a larger block. Many people are now opting for large chalet-style apartments without the catering service. The concept of numerous bedrooms with a spacious living area can be provided by the likes of Pierre et Vacances Premium in Arc 1950 and Eden Arc in 1800, Chalet Altitude and Cime des Arcs in Arc 2000 or CGH in Vallandry. Contact Erna Low for more information on this type of holiday.
There are several hotels around Les Arcs. Quite a few are large club hotels like the Club Med in Arc 2000. The Hotel du Golf in 1800 has a variety of well known jazz musicians performing on a regular basis. Many of the hotels have their own gyms, spas and restaurants as well as activities for children etc. The Radisson chain is associated with some of the apartments in Arc 1950 where dining options are available in the adjoining restaurants.
Apartments in Les Arcs range from the basic offerings of buildings that have changed little since their construction in the 60s and 70s to the latest in luxury. Arc 1950 was developed by Intrawest and is influenced by local Alpine architecture. Being completely car free and ski in/ski out, it has become very popular with the British and more recently the Russian market.
