Sainte Foy - France
Sainte Foy (Sant fwa) is the jewel in the crown of the Tarentaise region, a hidden gem that is surrounded by more illustrious neighbours. Though the resort itself was only built in 1990, the traditional style of chalets makes a change from the concrete architecture found in other resorts. The south-west facing bowl, complete with attractive restaurants and bars, is dominated by Mount Pourri. A lot of the accommodation is in chalets, and this is a popular destination for families, so don't expect much from the nightlife.
Skiers and boarders alike head to Sainte Foy from the bigger resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere, attracted by the deep powder and short lift queues. Ski passes are affordable and slopes are uncrowded, whilst the area offers access to some of the world's best skiing in the six surrounding resorts of the Tarantaise valley. The closest airport is Chambery, about two hours away, whilst the snow train to Bourg St Maurice (25 minutes away) is a good option too.

The majority of airlines fly into Geneva, which has the more...

Where to stay
Sainte Foy is primarily a chalet resort and has undergone much renovation in the last couple of years creating more and more traditional chalets to stay in. Whatever your budget, if you are skiing in high season, you should book as early as possible. For those on a tight budget, the more flexible you are and more...

Food and drink
As a small alpine village Sainte Foy doesn’t have anywhere near the variety of bars and restaurants offered by its more famous neighbours. As could be expected most menus are dominated by hearty mountain food. La Bergerie is a popular evening option with reasonable prices. Similarily La Maison a more...

On the piste
The slopes of Sainte Foy have a lot to recommend them. For starters, there are excellent snow conditions due to the north-west facing slopes, and plentiful sweeping runs through the trees for beginners and intermediates. There are also two adult and children's nursery slopes that are served by three more...

MadDogView
In the last few years Sainte Foy has had a big increase in visitors, though its limited pistes mean most of these are families and beginners. The resort's altitude and north-west facing slopes mean good snow conditions. Near enough to Tignes for a day's skiing in the Espace Killy.

Chez Merie
This is located in the old and beautiful village of Le Miroir in a traditional chalet. There are a few daily shuttle buses from the centre of resort to within five minutes walk, to cater for the long back-country tour off the back of Pointe de Foglietta. In the evening you would need to drive, take a taxi or hitch. Well worth the effort as this is some of the best food in the Alps. Deliciously simple regional cuisine with a Provencal twist, meat orientated but with the freshest of ingredients. Reservations essential. -
