Although Les Contamines does not have a great many leisure amenities, there are several things to do there when not skiing. However, you can forget about such things as shopping and casinos. Activities in Les Contamines when you’re not on the slopes are very much on the wholesome and outdoorsy side.
Sightseeing in Les Contamines
This photogenic little town has a couple of sites of historical interest to visit, these being the Chapel of Notre Dame de la Gorge and an interesting and well-preserved 18th century farmhouse. You can either stroll to them yourself, or arrange to visit them with a heritage guide via the Les Contamines tourist information centre.
Leisure activities in Les Contamines
There are all sorts of things to do out and about in the fresh air from horse-drawn carriage rides to ice skating, ice climbing and moonlit dog-sled rides. The tourist information centre can fill you on a timetable of indoor exercise classes, such as pilates, if you feel the need to stretch it out, and then there’s the Saint Gervais Spa for easing away any aches and pains.
There are a couple of events going on in Les Contamines over the winter months, with both the Audi World Cup Ski Cross and the International Open Curling tournament in January, then the French Nordic Ski Championships at the end of March.
