La Plagne has plenty of services to ensure the perfect holiday for all the family. There are lots of ski schools and childcare facilities, sledging areas for kids to play and family lift pass discounts and even free passes for under 6s!
Skiing with the family can be a wonderful experience for everybody but preparation is the key to a relaxing time. Childcare facilities and ski school do get very busy so if possible book well in advance. See our top ten tips for ski holidays with children.
Ski school and nurseries for children
Each of the sectors of La Plagne caters well for children. The ski schools offer various facilities for all ages. They aim to get the kids out on the snow at an early stage, even if it is just to get them shuffling through hoops and making snowmen. The focus will be on fun and of course there are facilities for when the weather is bad. As children get older, the format will become more focused on skiing and technique. The national French ski school (ESF) have operations throughout La Plagne but there are some alternatives such as Evolution 2 in Montchavin-Les-Coches and Oxgène in Plagne Centre. Some group lessons will have mixed nationalities in them so it's a good idea to specify that you want an instructor who speaks good English to ensure your kids will get equal attention.
Room to play
Additionally, some of the resorts offer sledging areas (Espaces Luges), where you kids can be let loose in safety! There are many events organised with kids in mind, like face-painting or sledge races and puppet shows. Check the weekly guide for specifics once you're there.
There are a wide range of nurseries or day centres on offer, again, the tourist office is the best point of contact for up to date information. You can see a list with contact information on their website.
The tourist office have a list of baby sitters and you may find that some reception staff also offer their services. There is a British run operation called Alpine Child Care who specialise in La Plagne and can be contacted in advance.
Discounts for families
Family rates are available when you book your lift pass in la Plagne. The family pass isbased on two adults and two (or more) children under 18 for six days or more. This worksout at quite a saving if you have children 14 years old or above, as from this age they would normally pay adult rates. Passports may be required as proof of age, but they may be less strict on family ties; you might get away with two adults of different surnames or the same sex for example.
