The season's best ski and snowboard videos

Posted by HannahEngelkamp 11th April 2012

Here are five of our favourite films from this season, and one of a snowboarding opossum. What even is an opossum? Read on to find out

1. Snowboarding in an LED suit

Put your headphones on, put the video on full screen, and enjoy - this is a beautiful little film that we came across by complete chance while having a MadDogSki meeting in a pub. The people at the next table were watching this on their laptop, and we were transfixed.

2. Flying a remote contol helicopter over Laax

Friends of MadDogSki have set up HeliPOV, a camera attached to a helicopter that can get right up close and personal with their subjects. Both of HeliPOV's crew members - Jamie Cameron and Dave Young - are old hands in the UK freeski world, so it's not surprising that they've been flying their heli over the Laax snowpark.

3. Sh*t skiers and snowboarders say

We apologise if you are JUST SO OVER this little internet fad, but it still raises a grin with us, so here it is. Enjoy.

3.2 And for snowboarders. If you don't like it, maybe stay in the Alps where it is probably exactly the same but sounds less annoying in French or German...

4. Clever little mini Whistler

Using some clever camera techinique Whistler made this little video that shows a day in the life of the ski resort as if it was a toy town.

5. Urban skiing

In this beautiful section from All.I.Can, the latest film from Sherpa's Cinema, freeskier JP Auclair makes sparks with skis and pavements. Don't do it unless you're sponsored! The film won best feature-length mountain film at the Banff Mountain Film Festival.

and last but, well, least - it's a snowboarding opossum, because every round-up should have a snowboarding opossum, of course.

About the author

Hannah Engelkamp is MadDogSki's editor, which involves a pretty decent balance between trawling around behind the scenes of this website you see before you, and zipping around the pistes and bars of the Alps. Please email me if you've got any suggestions about things you'd like to see on here, and I'll see what I can do (especially if you demand stories on heli-skiing, the world's best spas or vin chaud tests, personally researched. Well, it would be rude not to).
