MadDogSki at the NEC!

Posted by HannahEngelkamp 2nd November 2011

MadDogSki are back from our stand at the British Ski+Board Show, which was a roaring success in the Birmingham NEC last weekend. Heaps of people came to see us, to tell us their favourite resorts and get a free MadDogSki guidebook of their choice.

Favourite resorts

We asked people what their favourite resort, bar or restaurant was, and the answers were no surprise. Lots of people recommended bars, especially the Folie Douce in Val d'Isere and the new one in Val Thorens (we must attract the party crowd!).

The MadDogSki stand at the NECCourchevel was the most popular resort by far but that may be influenced by the large banner with 'Courchevel' written on it! Val d’Isère and Chamonix were pretty popular as well.
We also asked people why they liked the places they recommended, and here are some of the more unusual answers:

"Watched my friend fall face first down the slope"

"Got married in the morning and then skied in the afternoon"

"It's got plastic cows"

"Because there is a wooden goat. I love goats, they eat my wife's hair"

Less randomly, friendliness and a big ski area were the two factors highest on the list of reasons for pledging allegiance to a resort.

Fantastic prize!

All of these people were signing up with the hope of winning our grand prize - a fantastic holiday for two to the Hotel Saint Louis in Courchevel. We've drawn the winner today, and they'll be notified tomorrow morning - so keep your fingers crossed! Thanks again to Flexiski and Courchevel for offering the wonderful prize.

Wear the t-shirt

Plenty of people also bought our gorgeous bamboo baselayer t-shirts, by far the best value baselayers in the show (world perhaps?), and our fun new Top Dog cards. Follow the links or email us if you fancy getting your hands on some yourself - we'll even give you free postage and packing because we are sad that you couldn't be at the show!

Our fancy prize poster at the NECWe had a lot of repeat customers who either had loads of the books already or they were buying more t-shirts as the ones they got last year were so good (aw, shucks!), and lots of people splashed out and got three t-shirts for £20, or two packs of cards for £7.

One keen customer said she wore the t-shirts when horseriding and bought three more for herself, and the woman who won a t-shirt last year through a Wednesday Win newsletter bought another one, plus one for her husband. We think that's pretty conclusive proof that they are popular!

Thanks to everyone who came to visit us - we had a great time and hope you did too!

About the author

Hannah Engelkamp is MadDogSki's editor, which involves a pretty decent balance between trawling around behind the scenes of this website you see before you, and zipping around the pistes and bars of the Alps. Please email me if you've got any suggestions about things you'd like to see on here, and I'll see what I can do (especially if you demand stories on heli-skiing, the world's best spas or vin chaud tests, personally researched. Well, it would be rude not to).
