The end of the season normally involves some denial for my friends and I. None of us want it to end and we’ll get in as many desperate last days in the slush as possible. But this year, I was indifferent, telling my friends I was “over it” and looking forward to summer. On the last day of the season here in La Clusaz, I realised I wasn’t ready to give up winter and decided to call a friend in Meribel to visit her for a desperate last ski.

Hello to all of you snowboarders and skiers out there, still hanging on to our last remnants of snow. Well, it looks as though the season is finally drawing to a close. Zermatt, however is still in full flow as 80% of our pistes are still up and running and looking in fine condition.

“The final countdown, dadada deeerr...”

It’s the “final countdown” into the last month of the season. If you haven’t already visited Zermatt, Then get here! We have some awesome snow at the moment and the mountain is particularly beautiful. It looks like we should also be expecting a little extra snow fall this weekend as well and because we’re nice and high and cold the snow is sticking around for a while and there is enough powder for everyone, woop woop!

At last, a small taste of that oh so rare white stuff. We have been treated with a nice little flurry of about 15 cm of fresh snow up here in Zermatt. If you really go looking you may almost get knee deep in those sacred wind deposited spots. It’s been a long wait and it’s actually pretty good to not see the sun for a couple of days. 6 weeks of blue bird days has been a treat but we were desperate for snow and it’s arrived just in time for all you lucky lot on half term break with your littlens.

So, I am guessing all us mountain lovers are curious as to where the snow is here in the European Alps. Unfortunately it’s certainly not in Zermatt. Luckily the majority of our pistes are supported by super mega snow cannons so the pistes are looking pretty sweet despite a large lack of snow. So, for you freeriders looking to shred some pow, it doesn’t look like you’ll be getting any fresh lines here just yet but don’t worry. Word on the grapevine is that it’s on its way.

"Please Santa can we have some snow for Christmas!”
Well, firstly I guess I should say Hello again to all you maddog blog readers and co-bloggers. I guess all of ya’ll in your various corners of the mountains have got impressive amounts of snow. We’re still waiting for our little flurry. That’s not to say it’s not on its way though, it looks like the next few days are set to bring as a nice metre at least and boxing day should be blue skies. So if the snow gods are with us, we’re set to have an epic day after Christmas to ease those hangovers and put a smile on everyones flushed faces!

Well well well, The snow has finally arrived in Zermatt. Whilst all other lowland resorts are closing up and preparing for the summer, the Zermatters are still very much in Skiing mode. The past week has seen a total of 60cm of fresh snow fall here, with more on the way! The pistes are still in great condition and about 90% of them are still open. Of course they are a bit slushy and wet but the mornings are still as good as ever and with nice quiet pistes, it’s a prime time for a visit to the home of the Matterhorn.

Following the news that you have to add a breathalyser (or two) to your car equipment when you drive in France, here is an update. It seems that these plans have been shelved indefinitely due to the lack of knowledge of the legal limits by visitors to the country. As you can see from the list at the end the UK has the highest limit - almost double the French limit - which obviously increases the confusion. For more information see our Top 10 tips for driving to the Alps.
