The Go Ski Go Board campaign from Snowsport England (supported by the Tirol Tourist Board) is kicking off this month, and last week I had the chance to go to the launch event at Hemel Snow Centre, both to find out what it’s all about and to have a go at snowboarding. It was Thursday September 5th – most likely the last hot day of the year, if you remember?

After much anticipation we arrived in Austria and were greeted by snowy Alps and a stand-up shot of the potent local schnapps at our Mayrhofen chalet. Everything was as it should be. Now to sort out our ski rental.

With my first ever ski holiday approaching fast, the time had come to start researching some cheap flights to Europe. I’ve always been under the impression that if you want a good flight deal, then you go straight to the easyJet, Monarch and Ryanair websites, and do a labour intensive search through all of London’s airports, on all three websites.

After years of seeing my friends heading off on ski trips to Europe (I’ve always preferred the idea of a beach to learning to ski on a freezing cold mountain top), I’ve finally decided to give it a go and join the MadDogSki team on a late season ski holiday.

Learning to ski as an adult can be very daunting, so get a head start with these ten ski tips for beginners, straight from a brand new ski convert. Before I start though, what’s written below is not meant to replace someone teaching you. Think of these tips to supplement your fabulous friend or instructor.

For most families, bound by school holidays, skiing during the Easter holidays represents the best value for money, in comparison to Christmas and half-term school holidays. With most schools breaking up on Friday 27th March and Good Friday falling earlier on 3rd April, the choice of where to ski is broader with many resorts at that time still looking forward to another few weeks of the season.
