"Please Santa can we have some snow for Christmas!”
Well, firstly I guess I should say Hello again to all you maddog blog readers and co-bloggers. I guess all of ya’ll in your various corners of the mountains have got impressive amounts of snow. We’re still waiting for our little flurry. That’s not to say it’s not on its way though, it looks like the next few days are set to bring as a nice metre at least and boxing day should be blue skies. So if the snow gods are with us, we’re set to have an epic day after Christmas to ease those hangovers and put a smile on everyones flushed faces!

First there was a six hour drive from Shropshire to Milton Keynes to get the papers legalised. Next an 48 hour long wait in the airport. Then a three hour long bus ride and now I`m finally here.

Last week it was a delightful group of Kenyans all learning how to ski and generally ski teaching was fun and happy.  This week I’ve been plunged into Christmas week ‘cours collectifs’ and I’m grasping for the French, Dutch and German phrases for ‘get up yourself you lazy enfant, it’s the millionth time you’ve fallen over for no reason today’…

That the holiday season is upon us is evidenced by the English, American and Dutch accents that are now common in mountain restaurants and on chairlifts. But the Föhn wind is blowing from the south bringing milder weather - not what the mountains need in the run up to Christmas. Anticipating soft snow this afternoon, I headed for St Jacob in Haus in the Pillersee valley, a small resort that will be fun for a day, but is not somewhere that an experienced skier would spend a week.

Take a look at this great video of Santa on his skis.  19th December was officially 'Dress Like Santa Day' in Whistler and Santa gave the good old reindeers a day off and took to their skis and boards.  A sight like no other really!

Got into resort last Wednesday; one of the blokes I'm working for picked me up from Geneva. Not much snow as we headed up, and the same was to be said for resort.  I'm living in a place called Le Praz (pronounced Pra) which is at 1300. There are a few different resorts in Courchevel: 1850, 1650, 1550, Le Praz and Saint Bon - all well connected via a frequent bus service and also the 'bubble' lift. First week has been a lot of driving, mainly to Geneva but also Grenoble and heading all the way up to Val d'Isere! Couple of 13 hour days clocked in so far, with any luck that will even out into some nice days off.

Fantastic snow conditions continue in the Portes du Soleil and that’s before the amazing two foot of snow that fell overnight! Yesterday in Lindarets there was hardly another skier or snowboarder on the mountain and we were thrilled to find empty runs. Oh what a different story it will be this time next week… still, we can’t have it all and for many of us, without the masses of tourists, we wouldn’t be here at all! Morzine is getting set for a very busy Christmas week and the Office de Tourisme has today published its calendar of events.

The recent news from France that ski hosting by British tour operators or chalet hosts is to be outlawed has caused a lot of concern among British skiers. Ski hosts are generally chalet hosts who will take their guests around the mountains to familiarise them with the best runs, a free service and a great added extra to your ski holiday package.  It all started when a chalet host from Le Ski was taking his guests on a run and was stopped by the French Police and questioned. Le Ski is now appealing the ruling through the courts in France but this could have far reaching consequences for everybody involved.
