Venture into the mountains and explore the Alpine forests, take in the breathtaking scenery and spot some of the local wildlife. Equipped with snowshoes and poles, you can follow any of Zermatt’s five marked trails made up of over 45km of routes. Snowshoes are available to rent from hire shops and cost around 15chf per day. Or you can just hike with appropriate footwear. Collect hiking map from the tourist office.

Hiking is free unless you choose to use the lift system to get you higher into the mountains (although you may then need to take snowshoes). Otherwise take one of the paths signposted for the resort.

To use the lifts, the Peak Pass – designed for hiking and snowshoeing – is available from the lift pass offices. You may choose to take a guided tour and learn about your surroundings as you hike. The Alpine Centre does group tours and private tours.
