2011 City Ski Championships in Courmayeur

This year, City Ski Championships has levelled the playing field on the slopes at Courmayeur introducing a new way of racing.

For the first time, skiers will be able to categorise themselves according to their skiing ability - and then compete against others in the same ability group.

There's a choice of six skier levels in which to place yourself - described in detail on the Warren Smith Academy website; basic, intermediate, intermediate, advanced intermediate, advanced, expert/instructor and athlete. Watch the Warren Smith videos on www.cityskichampionships.com and decide what your ability is, and then tell the City Ski Championships staff when you book your ski weekend.

Racers will still be able to compete against their peers and colleagues within their business sector - such as fund manager, financial consultant, stock broker, and insurance broker. But this new system will give less experienced skiers an incentive to race hard - knowing they have a real chance of winning in their skier level category.

Commenting on the new system, Smith said, "Lots of skiers are put off racing because they think it's for elite skiers only. But it can be enjoyed at every level of skiing - and can do wonders for your technique
too. We hope this new system will encourage more people into the Championships - giving them the chance not only to have fun, but to hone their skiing skills as well."

Those skiers who want to get the full benefit of from Smith's presence at the Championships should arrive on Thursday night. That way, they'll be able to join the 10am Warren Smith Performance Clinic on the Le Greye Piste - and polish their technique on the day before the main event.
