Planning your ski weekend
Flights
- Peak holiday times and Saturdays or Sundays are bad times to travel - airport queues are horrendous, roads are clogged turning what should be a relaxing weekend into a stress-induced nightmare
- Local airports may have limited flight choices but they do reduce your transfer times
Airport transfers
- Hiring a car offers the most flexibility but make sure you ask for snow tyres and snow chains when making your reservation
- Taxis and private transfers are the simplest method of transport but can be pricey
Which resort?
- Aim high, Resorts over 1500m with glaciers or good snowmaking facilities are the most snow sure...
- ...but in bad weather, high exposed slopes may be closed so you'll need somewhere with sheltered tree-lines pistes just in case
