Situated next to the Strada Statale N.26 route close to the major Autostrada A5 between the Mont Blanc tunnel border and Aosta, Courmayeur is easily accessible by road. Its proximity to France and Switzerland, as well as Turin airport, means that transfer times from the two closest airports (Geneva in Switzerland and Turin in Italy) are short, making it an ideal destination for weekend skiing. Alternatively, you can fly into Milan for a slightly longer journey.

Top tips for...
FlyingThe nearest airports to Courmayeur are Turin (Italy) and Geneva (Switzerland) which both have reasonable transfer times (see above table). Its proximity to these airports means the resort is an ideal weekend destination. For a slightly longer transfer time, you can also fly to Milan Malpensa.
TrainsAlthough there are no ski trains directly to Courmayeur, it is possible to take Eurostar from the UK, across France and then onto nearby Pre-Saint-Didier. If you book your journey carefully, you can book a journey that will take around 13 hours from the UK and involve three changes. The
German rail planner website is the best for planning such a journey.
TransfersFrom Turin, the train to Pre-Saint-Didier can take up to four hours and the
Savda bus to Aosta and then Courmayeur takes around three and a half hours. For flexibility and a shorter transfer, we’d recommend
hiring your own car or organise an
airport taxi transfer (around €250 one way for four people).
The other nearby airport is Geneva, although there are no public buses and to get the train requires several changes and up to six hours so a hire car or taxi is by far the easiest means of transport. Alternatively you can fly into Milan Malpensa, which is further away but doesn’t have an unreasonable transfer time.
Car hireHaving a car while you’re actually in Courmayeur is also useful to access other nearby ski areas and villages, although you can also take the
Savda bus services which runs to most local destinations (visit the transport office in Piazzale Monte Bianco).
Self-driveIf you’d prefer to drive from the UK, the journey from Calais is a fairly straightforward route of around nine hours across France and then crossing the French/Italian border through the Mont Blanc tunnel. During the winter months, the Gran San Bernardo and the Piccolo San Bernardo passes are both closed and you should take the Mont Blanc or the Grand San Bernardo tunnels instead– a fact not usually picked up on Sat Navs or route planning sites!
